Discover participation in 33 MNOK research program
Discover Petroleum is an active participant of the research program "Subsea sensors for oil and gas" that was awarded 33 MNOK through the Research & Development (R&D) program "Research Initiative for Northern Norway" on 16 June by the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Mrs. Ragnhild Meltveit Kleppa. The succesful project was one of the five projects that received support, wherein the Norwegian government aims to actively stimulate the competence based industry in Northern Norway.
Discover Petroleum plays an active role in one of the central work packages that has particpants from Norut Tromsø and the University of Tromsø. The goal of the work project is to improve the accuracy of marine geoelectric measurements, with the aim to significantly reduce the risk for drilling dry wells. Alfred Hanssen, Director of Technology and Research at Discover says: "We are very happy to participate in this massive R&D project, and it fits well with our dedication to be a leading edge research based oil company. The R&D being addressed in the project is in line with our technology strategy, and will secure R&D focus at the university level to areas of significant commercial value for our company."
The project is governed by the Department of Physics and Technology, University of Tromsø, and there are several participants and collaborators from the institute sector and from R&D based industry.
