Discover Petroleum is an active participant of the research program "Subsea sensors for oil and gas" that was awarded 33 MNOK through the Research & Development (R&D) program "Research Initiative for Northern Norway" on 16 June by the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Mrs. Ragnhild Meltveit Kleppa. The succesful project was one of the five projects that received support, wherein the Norwegian government aims to actively stimulate the competence based industry in Northern Norway.

Discover Petroleum is in a busy period with award of new licenses, EM operations, planning of partner drilling operations and preparations for the next licensing round. It is therefore important to be physical fit to cope with all the exciting tasks and duties of a typical Discover Petroleum working day.

Discover was awarded 3 licenses as partner in the 20th Round award on Thursday 30.4.09.
Two of the licenses are located in the Barents Sea and one is situated in the deep-water Norwegian Sea.

Discover Petroleum visited the Exploration Revived conference 17-18th March 2009 in Bergen.

Discover Petroleum har inngått et forskningssamarbeid med Sintef Petroleum. Målet er å øke kunnskapen om skiferens egenskaper, spesielt i forbindelse med elektromagnetisk stråling.

Discover Petroleum has initiated a new scientific development project in collaboration with SINTEF Petroleum, Trondheim. The objective is to increase the understanding of electromagnetic properties of shales, which play an important role in the interpretation of EM surveys which Discover has acquired using Petromarker technology.

Discover gave a talk about the petroleum opportunities in the High North at the "Håp i Havet 2009" conference organized by the University of Tromsø last week.

Discover will drill two exploration wells during 2009 as partner in the licenses PL469 and PL483S (see locations).

GDF SUEZ is the operator in PL469. In addition to Discover (22,5 %), Aker Exploration is partner in the license. Aker Barents will be used to drill the well, which is anticipated to be started during summer 09. The drilling period is estimated to approximately one month
