Borgland Dolphin on contract with Discover Petroleum
Discover Petroleum is a part of a consortium of oil companies which has a 4 year contract for use of Borgland Dolphin.
The rig is currently working for StatoilHydro drilling and completing production wells in the Tampen area. The new contract will commence early 2010, starting for BP drilling development wells on the Skarv Field. Later the rig will drill explorations wells for the other members.
Discover Petroleum has secured a capacity of 115 days, enough to drill at least two wells. Exactly where to use this capacity is not yet decided.
Rig Management Norway is facilitator for the consortium, consisting of 8 operating oil companies operating in Norway. Close cooperation is necessary between the companies in order to arrange the rig intake, possible upgrading, and purchase of 3rd Party services. After commencement the co-operation will be even more important to secure safe and efficient operations.
Borgland Dolphin was built in 1977, but was upgraded significantly with completely new topside and drilling equipment in 1999. It started for Statoil after the upgrade. Borgland has been constantly upgraded and maintained by Dolphin and Statoil during these years. It is a modern rig with a good record both regarding HSE and efficiency in the current operation for StatoilHydro.
The consortium is now planning for taking over the rig and is also preparing possible upgrades due to the change in type of operations compared to the current work. It is focus on all the consortium members planned operations to make sure that the rig is capable and prepared for the planned wells.
The rig is currently operated as a tight rig and is planned to be used in the Barents Sea for several operators during summer months. However, there is focus on the special conditions for Barents Sea operations and the consortium will ensure that the rig and crew fulfills the requirements set by the authorities
